Part Three: The Lessons

Lessons are what the past gifts us.

The comfort zone is as a result of repeated actions that lead up to habits that we settle into. A sort of factory setting that when we reboot, we automatically start from.

It is so much easier to revert to old habits and behaviours than it is to learn new ones. However, when we learn from mistakes, we must intentionally apply the learnings and grow from them. We are not defined by our past.

In Part 1 of this chapter, I alluded to things not going quite as planned, and that infact they started to slowly fall apart, or so it seemed. I was referring to the power of the lessons that we can tap into to grow.

We are beings, and we age, which translates to growth. Growth is a measure.

📌For example we measure:

👉🏽The natural progression of a child from crawling to walking and then running.

👉🏽The progress in education from kindergarten, to primary and secondary school.

👉🏽The progress in our careers from internship to union staff to management.

In that part of my life, where I alluded to things falling apart, I was focused on what went wrong and labeled myself a failure, instead of focusing on the lessons and applying them to better myself.

I wasted time and energy. Tony Robbins quote comes to mind ‘where you focus goes, energy flows’

The power of second chances comes with the responsibility of not repeating the same mistakes twice. It can be argued that we may repeat the mistakes over and over again, but not in the same way twice.

There is growth with every mistake we make. The #choice is ours and can be seen in the actions we take.

📌You can either stay stuck in a loop of that reality, you can blame everyone and everything, or you can pick the lessons and make them work for you.

Dale Carnegie said, ‘#knowledge isn’t power until it is applied’. I have really come to appreciate this.
