Red Car Moments

Unlocking the Power of Intentionality

Have you ever noticed that once you focus on something, it seems to appear everywhere? That is exactly what happened when I decided to buy a red car. And as it turns out, the experience was more than just a car purchase—it was a profound lesson on the power of focus and intentionality.

Lesson 1: When You Set Your Mind on Something, It Shows Up Everywhere

After 11 faithful years, my old car was signaling that it was time for an upgrade. I knew I wanted something different, and “different” for me meant colour and horsepower. But, if I am being honest, it was really the color that moved my needle.

The moment I settled on red, something fascinating happened—I started seeing red cars everywhere. In traffic, in parking bays, at the mall… they were suddenly all around me. It wasn’t that the world had changed, but rather, my focus had.

Curious, I took it a step further and narrowed my search to two specific models. And just like that, those cars began appearing too. That is when it clicked—my mind was storing my choice, setting me up to see what I had decided to focus on.

Lesson 2: What You Focus On Expands

At the time, I was not as self-aware as I am now, but looking back, I realize this was a defining moment. My ability to zero in on what I wanted was strong in my professional life, yet it was not mirrored as intentionally in other areas.

That realization stung. How many opportunities had I overlooked simply because I had not decided to see them? How many doors remained closed because I had not actively searched for the key?

As the saying goes, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.”

So, I pivoted. I started applying the same level of intentionality to my spirituality, relationships, health, finance and personal growth. That journey has not been linear—it has been filled with ups and downs, coaches and counsellors, community and solitude, breakthroughs and recalibrations. But it has been worth every step.
