Thrash Out Your Blocks

Part Three: It is not true❗

Limiting beliefs are fundamental thoughts that we have about ourselves, others and the world, that limit us in moving forward. One of the most common beliefs is that ‘I am not good enough’.

These thoughts are formed from events in our lives that shape our thinking and are reinforced over time and we then we hold them true.

In this case, an individual will set out with this limiting belief, and in the course of execution, self-sabotage their efforts. The outcome in most cases will not be a success, and as a result, reinforce what they already believed –  that they were not good enough.

I have been, and continue to be, limited by my beliefs from time to time. The awareness of this pattern has helped me tremendously in reframing my thoughts, creating positive possibilities and being successful in my growth.

💡My Coach training introduced me to the Coach Mindset. One of learning and curiosity. Coaching is done through conversation and curiosity is demonstrated through questions.

The imposter syndrome visited upon me during my Coach training and interfered with my learning. However, when put to the test by simple questions, I find that this limiting belief, that I am a fraud, was in fact not true.

✨A kind of ‘naming and taming the thoughts’ process encouraged a different outlook.

As mentioned in Part One: Winnowing, ‘I liken my limiting beliefs to the chaff’. They served their purpose of making sense of my reality in a particular season of my life.

It was time to thank them and move on. Time to create space for the new season. This meant that I needed a new narrative.

This narrative is informed by what I call ‘Kutabiri’- an exercise that I have in my training modules.

📌Kutabiri is about seeing a successful outcome and figuring out what needs to happen in the present for that to be a reality.

The limiting beliefs come in the form of your inner voice, and doing this exercise triggers that inner voice volume, and can be very intimidating.

In my experience, I have learned to separate them from me, they are a different entity and not true of mine – cue new narrative.

💪🏽I am ready to do the work, for this too shall serve its season and pass.
