Wealth and Importance

My publisher is in town visiting, and we met up to touch base, and get an update as to where we are with the publication, which is a year behind schedule.

The name of the publication is Wealth Footprints and my chapter is called – ‘Awakening Self’.  We are a total of 13 Co-Authors.  Though the update was about the publishing delay, we digressed into the importance of Wealth Creation.

He stated that documentation is a means of Wealth Creation.  He defined Wealth, in this context, as something of greater value than money.  He used the example of selling family land versus selling family burial grounds/cemetery.  The latter is perceived to have more value because of the history attached to it.  The value of family remains made it greater than money, and was protected fiercely.

?What do you protect fiercely?

My mother passed away in April this year, and it was in writing her eulogy, that I realized, that there was history about her, that I was not aware of.  Now if her story had been documented, the writing of the eulogy would be based on factual events as shared by her, but in this case, we depended on one another to put it together.

?Have you documented your story?

?Does your family know where to find all the relevant facts?

Suffice to say that the value of buildings are separated by the history attached to them.  So whereas some will only be an address, others will be historical monuments. Hence protected and valued.

This got me thinking about documenting my life for my future generations.

  • Would I include images, videos, podcasts?
  • What would my pains and joys come through as? – the journey of life?
  • Would it be an autobiography of a collection of experiences?
  • How would I capture my values and principles?
  • Would it be an heirloom passed from one generation to another?
  • What would my legacy be?

Great nations of this world are in part measured by the Wealth of their documented history, which understandably is an ongoing exercise.

We as Africans have always told our stories, and are now actively documenting them.  This is Wealth Creation.  We can ✔show for it, ✔share it, ✔learn from it, and ✔protect it fiercely.

What is your story?
